Ophelia String Quartet

Made up of four of Ireland’s most outstanding young artists, the Ophelia Quartet made their concert debut at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival 2019. Since then, they have been the ConCorda Fellowship Quartet, and toured Ireland in September as part of the National String Quartet Foundation autumn season 2019. Phoebe White recently graduated with a Bachelor degree from Indiana University, where she studied with Mauricio Fuks. She now studies under Carolin Widmann at the Hochshcule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig. Recently, she was awarded the Flax Trust Bursary Prize at the Clandeboye Festival.
Colma Ní Bhriain started playing the violin when she was 3 years of age. She has been a student of Young European Strings and the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. She has also participated in masterclasses with Jan Repko, Stephan Picard, Baiba Skride and Maxim Vengerov. Colma is now studying for her Bachelor in Music Performance with Prof. Thomas Klug in the Hochschule für Künste Bremen, Germany.
20 year old violist Seamus Hickey studies with Nobuko Imai and Marjolein Dispa at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. A former student of Simon Aspell and Adrian Petcu at the CIT Cork School of Music, he is a versatile performer and a committed chamber musician and was a finalist in the 2018 Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year.
Killian White studied with Christopher Marwood at the Royal Irish Academy of Music until June 2018. He recently commenced a Bachelor degree at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin, under Frans Helmerson. Killian was the recipient of the 2018 RDS Music Bursary. He has performed as a soloist with the RTE Concert Orchestra, Kaunas Symphony Orchestra, the Hibernian Orchestra, Dublin Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Concerti Sinofnietta.

News

As you may be aware, David Taylor has decided to retire as chairman of the Derravaragh Music Association after 25 years service.We are fortunate in having found a new chairperson, Jane Massy, who has wide experience at administration and a great knowledge of music, and also that Bridget, David’s wife, has kindly offered to continue as the Treasurer of the DMA for at least another year.

We are also delighted to announce that John Fairleigh has agreed to join the DMA committee.
